Yeovil Model Railway Group (YMRG) is a friendly and well established group of modellers that not only enjoy building ambitious club layouts together, but like to help each other and enjoy a great social life too! Model railways is a wonderful hobby that may even be good for the old grey cells, but our emphasis is very much on fun and enjoyment. In fact it seems to us that in combining fellowship with extreme power tools and trains, we have created the ultimate ‘Men’s Shed’!
Whilst we have members expert in many fields and even a few ‘rivet counters’, we also welcome novices and all shades in between. YMRG has a very diverse mixture of talents such that when you want help with any task there will be someone there to help. When you need to know the provenance of some ancient model, or how some prototype functioned, then there is usually someone who will know. If not then our library will provide the best resource to find out. One member spent all his time at the club in our library in a comfy chair and that’s fine too!
With our 7,000 square feet (ca. 650 m²) club room we have club activity and layouts for O gauge, OO gauge, EM gauge and N gauge. There is a thriving contingent using and building DCC layouts and sound fitted locos are frequently heard on club nights. You will get a good idea of what we are about from exploring this website, but if you live anywhere near Yeovil, why not come along and see for yourself?
